Come dress shopping with me!

So I’ve been wondering what one wears as a… subsequent bride in a very informal affair with kids and parents and not much else. I mean, I could probably wear any number of red dresses I already own but that might offend the groom. It should be something special, and therefore, new. I’ve been cruising the Interweb like a mental patient.

Then, I deleted the 12367789th PR pitch for a giveaway when I realized that it was for dresses at a site called Shabby Apple. Now, I’m a sucker for anything with the name Shabby in it and have been since Shabby Chic appeared on this earth to taunt me with everything I can’t have in my home.

So I dragged it back to my inbox, read it, clicked through and HOLY CRAP I love this site! I love the clothes. They have women’s dresses, little girls’ dresses, white dresses (I probably shouldn’t go there) and even maternity dresses (you will NEVER catch me there, and if you do you may shoot me). In fact, I should NOT be able to shop there at all before Christmas because I will think of reasons to buy ten new items. BUT! I am shopping for a wedding dress, no? So I could make one purchase, am I right? I practically OWE it to Guy to buy a dress.

You’re in luck too, because I immediately wrote to see if I could actually do a giveaway or discount code through them for my readers. People, you know how I hate to do giveaways, and yet I asked THEM if I could do it.

Here’s the deal:

  1. If you visit their site and make a purchase, the coupon code “themommyblog10off” will get you 10% off. It begins Monday, Dec 6, and will expire 30 days from then. Don’t make me do the math.
  2. ALSO! They will give away one of these lovely dresses to one of you!
  3. You could also visit Shabby Apple’s Facebook page and “like” them for a mandatory entry for the giveaway. Here’s the link.
  4. As for the contest, I thought I’d let you browse the dresses they’ve offered in the gallery below and tell me which you one you’d like and why. Best story wins. Needs entries by Thursday midnight, and I’ll announce Friday morning, Dec. 9. You could have it in time for Christmas. (US residents only, sorry!)

That’s all for now because between not having power half of last week, having the stomach flu, and holding my daughter’s hair back for the past 24 hours straight, I’m not thinking clearly. Which is why I’m getting this all done right now between cries of MAMA! AUUUGHHBLEGRRRHH!”

So get yer tushie over there and start thinking about which dress you might want, and what you might be willing to do to get it. I’ll work something out from my end too. In the meantime, you have that 10% off coupon to start shopping with on Monday.

P.S. Um, guys? I’m looking through all the other sections, especially accessories and arts and crafts, and they are giving Anthropologie a serious run for their money. Only this is AFFORDABLE.

Ooooooooh, Spanish Steps is my fave! It looks so cute and feminine and flirty. When I was a senior in high school (gasp! Nearly 20 years ), I went on a trip to Europe with several classmates and a couple of teacher-chaperones. What happened in Europe stayed in Europe *wink, wink* but I remember sitting on the Spanish Steps, exhausted and hungover, sharing Italian McDonald’s* with my friends and wanting desperately to have that certain je ne sais quoi** that the Italian women evoked. This dress brings that moment back vividly.

*According to Wikipedia, one is not supposed to eat on the steps. Oopsie.
**It’s a French phrase, yes. So sue me. I don’t know the Italian equivalent.

  5. How about “Aintree”?  It is a great color for a wedding dress, a nice silvery grey and very simple and sophisticated.  It’s under sidesaddle

  6. I’m going with that Adelaide skirt…because who doesn’t look fabulous in a navy blue pencil skirt with a high waist and a bow? This would look DARLING on me when I’m presenting at all my office events next year. :)
